Our Viognier is grown on a combination of terrains on our estate, and the 2019 fruit was carefully picked in small batches as the different sites managed to perfectly ripen their fruit. They were whole bunch pressed to a combination of 225L French oak barrels ranging in age from 2nd-4th fill, and this year enjoyed the addition of a concrete-fermented portion too. The nose is filled with aromas of peach blossom, jasmine flower and mandarin zest, and with the swirl of a glass, if you really pay attention, some Herbs de Provence too. Our cool climate’s influence on the ripening of this grape is vital in maintaining Viognier’s natural acidity, and adds edge to an already elegant offering.
This Blanc de Noir might be one of the most serious efforts I have tasted to date. It is pale and complex beyond my own expectation of the fruit. The nose hints subtle floral notes of elderflower (a pyrazine) that quickly become consumed by high concentrations of thiols such as passionfruit, grapefruit and gooseberries (yeast derived) before leaving the nose with hints of fresh citrus.
On the palate you are exposed to serious grip and spice, for which we need to credit the variety being Cabernet Franc, as well as our excellent cool climate terroir. Incredibly small tannins provide a racy texture. It is bone dry with an incredibly fresh natural acidity providing a long, clean, finish.
The LUCCA embodies the synthesis of elegance and power, demanding further exploration into an endless palate. Its spicy, floral perfume unwinds from its attractive herbal core of wild rosemary and fynbos with the swirl of a glass. Beyond the characteristics of the Cabernet Franc, the Merlot will provide you with Morelo cherry aromas, flowing effortlessly onto a palate showing serious structure.
The AIDAN is extremely expressive with powerful aromas of cassis, clove, plum and blackberry. From this intriguingly dark nose this complex wine follows through with intense flavour concentration on the palate, presenting bold, yet polished, palate-gripping tannins that unwind into a lingering finish, demanding a sip more.
The STELLA nose is most enticing with upfront notes of fynbos florae, ripe black cherries and petrichor, seasoned with the perfect amount of white pepper. It is quite spicy but has a clean red berry perfume that can be attributed to the long, perfect growing season of 2017. It is full-bodied and packed with ripe, textured grape tannins that were extracted during the “hands-off”, whole-bunch natural fermentation, while the finish is long and decadent with its beautifully preserved natural acidity.
